Pac ! pac ! niste faruri si o grila modificate in stil astra i si gata, asa au ei impresia ca o sa arate masina.

Think the next-generation 2010 Meriva with its rear 'suicide doors' is all Opel has to offer in the subcompact MPV segment? Think again. Here's proof that General Motor's European unit is working on an SUV variant of its minivan that could go into production as early as 2011. The early test mule seen in these spy pictures combines a modified body shell of the current subcompact minivan with the chassis of the new Meriva that is scheduled itself to go on sale in 2010.

A closer look at these pictures reveals that aside from the jacked-up ride height, the prototype also features wider track. Expect to see the Meriva SUV being offered in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive forms. As for the engine range, the 'soft-roader' will be offered with the same variety of diesel and gasoline units as the standard Meriva including a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol unit with outputs ranging from 120 hp to 140 HP.

The new Meriva SUV will most likely feature a beefed-up look with raised height and the traditional 'off-road' styling cues like muscular wheelarches, heavy body cladding, larger roof rails and unique bumpers that will help to differentiate it from the standard car.

Opel Meriva Spied Showing Front and Rear Lights

More exterior details of the next generation Opel Meriva have been spotted under the spy glass. For the first time the headlights can be seen albeit being illuminated under the darkness of cold night. The rear lights would be completely visible too had it not been for the thick brush of snow covering them up.

Previous spy pictures featuring the Meriva showed a mini MPV with Opel's FlexDoor system. FlexDoor lets the doors open rearwards instead of outwards. We see side mirrors fixed on the doors and not on the A-pillar while a single oval tailpipe feigns some sporting character to the car even though it is a people mover. The interior is hardly worth mentioning except for the rear headrests which appear to be identical to those from the Zafira's third-row seats.

The Meriva will be like an antidote to those seeking a family MPV but without the burden of size and weight. It's likely to be based on the Corsa platform similar to the current vehicle. We'll see a burst of small petrol, petrol turbo and diesel turbo engines powering the car when it's launched.

Opel Meriva Prototype loses a little more camouflage

The Opel Meriva has been spotted once again while undergoing testing in preparation for its expected unveiling next year. Camouflage treatment on this particular prototype is slightly different to previous photos caught by spy photographers.

The shape of both headlights and taillights are clearly visible, and the engineers continued efforts to hide the door handles and hinges are almost comical. The Meriva will sport a suicide door layout, a feature that will be known as “flexdoors” by the Opel brand come production time.

Our sources claim the Meriva will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show which is a good 12 months away, but don't be surprised to see the new MPV make an earlier appearance in Geneva.

Nici nu e exagerata, deci probabil varianta de productie nu va fi foarte diferita.

Imi place mult directia pe care o urmeaza Opel in privinta designului.

Tocmai ma uitam la filmuletul cu prezentarea Merivei la Geneva si mi-am dat seama ca nu pot cobora din masina 2 persoane pe aceeasi parte deodata. De exemplu mai intai trebuie sa coboare pasagerul dreapta-fata, sa se departeze de masina si abia apoi poate deschide usa si cel din dreapta-spate.

Rüsselsheim. The Opel Meriva Concept, due to be unveiled next week at the 78th International Motor Show in Geneva (March 6 16, 2008), illustrates how the new Opel design language can be adapted to create bold, fresh design solutions for this segment.

The Opel Meriva Concept takes flexibility to new heights with its innovative FlexDoors system, which consists of rear-hinged rear doors that swing open toward the back of the car. As the B-pillars have been purposely retained for passive security reasons, the Meriva Concepts front and rear doors can also be opened independently of each other. Other rear-hinged rear doors already on the market can only be opened after the front door has been opened. This innovation makes access to the car interior much easier and also offers a range of safety benefits over conventional car doors. In the Meriva Concept, this innovation is combined with the highly variable FlexSpace rear seating system familiar from the production Meriva.

The FlexDoors system also enhances comfort and functionality, as the highest point of the roof just behind the B-pillars is exactly where the passengers enter and exit the vehicle. This architecture enabled designers to create a very dynamic and unique silhouette, with the arched roof line sloping down to the C-pillars.

Especially eye-catching is the dynamic wave in the window line just behind the B-pillars, which provides an excellent all-round view for rear passengers, particularly for children. The body also boasts the distinctive blade bodyside form, which was a design element of the GTC Coupé and Flextreme. Another feature is the U-shaped windshield, which stretches up and back over the rear passengers heads echoing the Astra GTCs panorama windshield. The slim A-pillars and windshield pulled far down ensure plenty of light and a spacious interior atmosphere. Both elements contribute to the outstanding all-round visibility for the occupants.
